Why snowmen are scary

Today was the big holiday celebration at preschool. They had someone dressed up as a snowman to take pictures of with the kids. Of course, neither of my boys would sit with him. On the way home, they were telling me about it.

B-man: They had a snowman, but it was just a costume. Inside was a monster!

N-man: No, it wasn't a monster. It was SANTA (said with a tone of dread. They haven't grown any fonder of Santa in the past few years.)

B-man: No, Santa has black boots. I didn't see any black boots. It was a monster.

Me: It wasn't a monster or Santa. It was just someone's mom or dad in the costume.

There was a big pause while the boys considered it. Then they immediately went back to their original positions, and the monster vs. Santa debate continued.

No wonder why they were too scared to get close to the snowman!

I'm afraid the boys are right on this one. It was probably something/someone scary inside the snowman. That's what's so scary about costumes. Kudos to them for figuring out that such things are just creepy!

HAHAHAHAHAHA! I was WONDERING why Burke and Maggie didn't want anything to do with that snowman either...good to know the possibilities ;) I haven't questioned them yet...but I'm definitely not going to put that idea in their heads...we'll see what they say ;)

When I was a little kid, all the downtown department stores had Santas, but there was one that had a life-sized Rudolph.

Rudolph was in the middle of this big, darkened room inside a corral full of snow. He'd rock back and forth, his nose blinking eerily in the darkness, while terrified children lined up along the walls, just outside the corral fence. When it was your turn, he would ask, in this thunderous voice that sounded just like the Wizard of Oz, "What do you want for Christmas, little girl?"

All that was missing was the flying monkeys....

That is so funny! I have to admit that I think they are right. I HATED anything thing in a big costume when I was a kid. I never sat on Santa's lap and always tried to get my Mom to give my list to him. And a trip to Disney? I probably would have had a heart attack with all the big characters running around.

I knew it! Monsters! No wonder I didn't like that sort of thing when I was a kid!
