Missing the point

So, I'm reading Twinkie, Deconstructed by Steve Ettlinger. It's about food additives and industrial food. It's not particularly in the "wow, isn't technology amazing" vein, let's just say.

However, whenever I read the book, the only thing I can think is "I need a twinkie". Oh, Polysorbate 60? I want a twinkie. The iron in enriched flour is also a weed killer? I want a twinkie. The cornstarch in a twinkie can also be used to make cardboard? I REALLY want a twinkie!

I've completely missed the point. And now I need to go out and get a twinkie. Or maybe a ho-ho.

Ho-hos are the BEST! I grew up in Florida but my extended family lived in Ohio. We didn't have Ho-Hos in Florida so every year when we visited, we would go back with boxes and boxes of ho-hos.

I felt the same way when I read Fast Food Nation. All I wanted was a big order of McDonald's french fries. I was so-so on Twinkie Deconstructed. Great concept but ho hum.

I know some people who accidentally walled in a Twinkie when they finished their basement. Ten years later, they took down the wall and the Twinkie was still inside, looking as fresh and delicious as the day it went in there. I haven't touched a Twinkie since.

Do you remember a couple years ago at The Taste of Buffalo there were Fried Twinkies ... I know Kyle tasted one. Did you?

I look in peoples carts at the grocery store. I see Twinkies and Ho Hos. I try and think of that stuff as food that other people eat. However a homemade cake I cant resist!
