My book group teased me the other day. My husband and I don't have an ipod. We still live in the CD era. Hey, I figure I'm good since at least we're not still in the cassette era. Hey, I haven't played a cassette in, oh, 3 years since I traded in my last car.
I guess I'm always a bit behind the times in terms of my music formats.
But really, what do I need an iPod for? I probably wouldn't use it unless it was docked, and then how is that different from a CD player? Yes, I wouldn't have to change CDs. I guess that'd be nice, but doesn't seem necessary. And I couldn't play it in my car. And I'd have to move all my music from CDs to the iPod, which seems like it'd take a ridiculous amount of time.
So tell me, why do I need an ipod? Is there something awesome about it I haven't thought of? If I'm missing something, maybe we'll have it be our holiday present to ourselves this year (we can't get a wii every year :). I guess I would like it when I'm at the gym working out. Hmmm....
And please, tell me there are others of you out there, with no ipod...

Random unrelated thought: N-man woke up this morning, pitter-patted into our bedroom, and announced, "It's bouncin' time!" Then he climbed up onto our bed and started jumping.
I wish I had that energy (or pleasant demeanor) so early in the morning!

You know the motto "If you can't be 'em join 'em"?
Don't feel too bad about being Ipodless. I just got my first this passed February. I love it! I use it at my desk at work at home, in my car. I never use it w/the ear buds b/c I have defective ears.
You'll see. Once you get it, you will marvel that you ever lived without it. And I'm so darn pissed b/c I left mine in the car today!!!!!
There was a time when I thought the iPod was overkill, but I'm a total convert. I agree with Gio, once you have it, you'll be amazed it took you so long. There's something about having your ENTIRE music collection at your fingertips. Oh, and playlists are the best! I have a dinner party playlist, a kids playlist, and various others to suit my mood. All without remembering which CD to bring.
I will admit that I don't use it nearly as much as I did before I had kids. But even in the car, you can either get a tape adapter or some newer cars have an auxillary jack so you can plug your iPod right into your car stereo. It's the best!!
I have an iPod, but I never, ever use it. I don't even think it's charged.
I did take the time to put all of my CDs into iTunes, and I have a Bose Wave Radio connected to my wireless router that picks up my comptuer's signal and plays anything in my iTunes. That's nice. I love not having CDs all over the place.
But the iPod? I can totally take it or leave it.
Love Love Love my ipod. It's on right now...attached to the computer speakers on my desk at work. I have speakers in my kitchen, and there's a jack attached to the stereo system in the living room, and a Bose speaker/dock in my bedroom. I have the aux jack in my car and an FM transmitter in my van. Needless to say, I listen to my iPod ALL. THE. TIME.
I have over 2600 songs on it, and I just listen to it on random all day. Fast forward over songs if they don't tickle my fancy at the moment (ABBA is on right now, before that was Afroman *grin*)
I have the iPod Video, but I don't have any videos on it. I did put pictures on it at one point, but I haven't put any recent ones on in a while...I don't think I even have any of Logan on there. OOPS! But that just leaves lots of room for music :D
I'm with Goddess. Having an ipod is all about the playlists for me. It is like getting to make as many mix tapes as you want! Mix tapes can be created in 10 minutes!
Also I download all my fave NPR shows as podcasts. It rules. I never have to miss Car Talk, book reviews, or This American Life. I listen to the podcasts while doing dishes and folding laundry.
Brian and I don't have an ipod. Brian's a techie but with its price, we end up asking why we need it. I know its hard to pull out your CD player in an airplane but who cares? They're not paying for it. Unless they give it to me free or they work for my money then I'd allow them to tease me. I see young people (who dont have children) carry it all the time and its like some part of fashion to them, like an accessory. I love fashion too, but if my child is going to be pulling it off my ears constantly and having the possibility of scratching the surface and destroying it with her drool...why bother. Also, if you really are thinking of buying one, there are phones that works just like an ipod and has lots of memory too that you can add up and you dont have to carry two, its all in one.
i'm not sure what category this puts me in (probably lazy); i have an ipod, but have never programmed it! i feel as if i need to take a week's vacation to load my entire CD collection onto my ipod and then (i think) i'd be a very happy camper!
i actually suggested to a college intern we had here one summer that she start a side gig programming ipods for adults who feel they have no time to do so. hey, maybe that can be YOUR new gig! i will gladly be your first customer if you'll give me a deal :).
My kids are going to make fun of me all the time for being that dorky parent who can't keep up with technology;) no ipod, I too can not see the point. I don't listen to music much and can't imagine spending the time putting faves onto one. My husband is just as bad, he doesn't even have a cell phone, I only have a simple one. we have basic cable and I mean basic, none of those dvr, tivo, whatever else they're called:0 we don't have a wii or any other game system for that matter. I know we sound so boring and oldschool but honestly I don't feel like I'm missing anything. I know I'm a dork,owell...
I don't have an iPod, but I do have an older mp3 player. The only reason why I do is because my parents thought I needed it. I use a few times a year (when I travel) and that's about it.
You don't need it. Not saying that they're bad/wrong/evil, but I think that people use them too much. What's wrong with silence? Same goes for TVs...
I don't personally have an MP3 player, but my hubby and girls (the two older ones) have them, but not the iPod brand. I do have all of my music on MP3 on my computer, though, and have had it like that for years. My hubby and I did our own music for our wedding reception by planning out our playlist and then just hooking up our computer to the sound system in the reception hall, and this was almost seven years ago! Many DJs use this method now, too.
We have great speakers, and a bass speaker, for our computer, so whenever we want to listen to music at home, we play it through the computer.
Anyhow, my point is, no need for the iPod, but definitely convert your stuff to MP3 format.
Oh, I do love the iPod. It has all my 80s music! I use it for running...or when I'm on the Metro. (Although today, I turned it off so that I could eavesdrop on the very desperate couple behind me... Him: "We can work this out! Together. You and me. I know we can do it." Her: A very cold silence...followed by quick exit at the next stop.)
I have an older mp3 player, and my phone plays mp3s, but I've never seen the need for an ipod. Goddess in progress is sort of convincing me though. . .
Congrats on your saucy blog. I dont have an ipod. Just got given an mp3 player, yet to program. Maybe if you are really into music, its a good thing, but sometimes I just like "peace". Players are good in the car when there is no radio reception...
I haven't read the other comments, but I have to tell you that I dug my heals in about an IPOD too. My husband insisted that I would want one, and I was almost irritated about it. So even after he gave me one for my birthday, I was a grumpy pants about it. Then? Then I just became in love with it. I have so many different categories for my moods and when I go to the gym I can just put it on and get lost in the music. With the treadmill it's great but I also like to watch TV on the treadmill. It really comes in handy when I go to lift. I tend to use more machines, and I do more sets....It must makes it better. You'll see.
Do it.
It's good.
